The Freedom of Public Information Law went into force in the Republic of Macedonia 1st September 2006. The citizens and legal persons have public insight and access to the work of public bodies and public enterprises thanks to this Law.
After the Law was adopted, FOSIM actively monitored its implementation, and exerted pressure so that the Commission for protecting the right to free access to public information will be established promptly, including the adoption of secondary legislation.
February 2006, the Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia adopted the Freedom of Public Information Law. NGO activists submitted their remarks to improve the proposed law. As a result, several essential recommendations were accepted and incorporated in the law.
